Published:2015-10-29

Some people may get confused about griddle and grill or use their name interchangeably. Griddle and grill are both common-used cooking appliances or implements in our daily life, but there indeed are some differences between them.

Basically, a griddle has a broad flat surface; commercial or residential ones are heated directly or indirectly by flame or electrical elements. While a grill has raised ridges which are perfect for keeping steaks, hamburgers, doner kebab, and other foods from sitting in the grease. There are several varieties of grills, with most falling into one of two categories: gas-fueled or charcoal.

It is well-known that some foods could be cooked on either of these, while some are better cooked on one rather than the other.

Griddles are better for cooking pancakes, french toast, bacon and eggs, since these foods require a flat cooking surface. Grills are usually used to cook doner kebab, bbq, chicken legs, meat string, Indian corn and even some vegetables. In conclusion, you can cook a steak, vegetables and other foods on a griddle, but some would prefer a grill for steaks, burgers and chops, since they look so much nicer with the grill lines.
